Wish: volume 1

Wish (manga)

Wish (manga)

I’m actually going to post a review before I forget. Recently I was at Satan’s Bookstore (A.K.A. Barnes and Noble) and felt the urge to buy CLAMP stuff. So I bought Wish and a volume of xxxHOLiC (Which is amazing, btw) and then went home to read them. Wish was a slighty difficult manga to figure out, because I wasn’t even sure what gender Kohaku, the main character, was supposed to be most like. I mean, it said angels and demons have no ‘genders’, per se, but stuff like that hurts my brain. I was looking at some site in Spanish that was saying it was basicly shounen-ai, but I could have guessed that much, and I hardly was able to understand the post. So moving on, it starts off with a giant doctor guy who’s walking home after work. And he finds a crying little. . . thing in a tree, being attacked by a crow. Doctor guy (Shuichiro Kudo) saves it, turns out that was a demon and the little gender-bending creature is an angel, and it just goes on from there. It has really cute art in most places, but the real men had ginormus friggin shoulders and these eyebrows from hell. And the plot and story seems like it radiates joy and love and cutesy-tootsie-wootsie eminateing from evey pore. Overall, I liked it. It didn’t have the so-called “emo-bitch” factor that’s been showing up in CLAMP’s more recent stuff. On a 1-10 scale, it gets a 8.5 from me.
